Mumbai: 47 men told to make donation were showering money on girls

MUMBAI: The complainant in the case where 47 men were arrested from a dance bar is Arif Patel, a constable attached to the crime branch. Later, the lawyers and the court agreed to donate the money to Apnalaya, an NGO that works for the underpriviledged in Mumbai. Later, the magistrate directed the money be donated to Satkarma Balak Ashram. In August 2016, the Supreme Court had allowed the three dance bars to operate under old laws. As of today, no bar in the city is permitted to have dance on its floor.

MUMBAI: The complainant in the case where 47 men were arrested from a dance bar is Arif Patel, a constable attached to the crime branch. A team from Tardeo police that landed at the bar found the girls there had crossed the stipulated distance between the stage and patrons.Police said the patrons were having a good time and showering money on the girls.The city police had, in February last year, cancelled the conditional licences granted to Indiana Bar at Tardeo and to Aero Punjab and Sai Prasad Classic at Andheri over non-compliance with fire safety norms. In August 2016, the Supreme Court had allowed the three dance bars to operate under old laws. As of today, no bar in the city is permitted to have dance on its floor. Advocate Sayunkta Kamath alias Kashikar who, along with senior lawyer advocate P R Dave, represented 37 accused, said they would immediately comply with the bail condition.The accused from Mumbai, Thane, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have been booked under various sections of the IPC and also under the Maharashtra Prohibition of Obscene Dance in Hotels, Restaurants and Bar Rooms and Protection of Dignity of Women (working therein) Act, 2016.Advocate Kamlesh More, one of the lawyers representing the accused, suggested to the court that the money could be donated to Child Relief and You, National Association for the Blind, World Vision of India, State Legal Authority etc. Later, the lawyers and the court agreed to donate the money to Apnalaya, an NGO that works for the underpriviledged in Mumbai. Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar's mother-in-law, Annabel Mehta, is the president of Apnalaya. Later, the magistrate directed the money be donated to Satkarma Balak Ashram.
