After several Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) students complained of a 'tricky' question in the Class 12 Maths paper, evaluators received a circular from the board asking them to grant marks for a 'confusing' question. The circular states that a six-mark question from the linear programming chapter could be comprehended and solved in two ways. In a corrigendum released on March 30, the CBSE told the evaluators to follow a different marking structure for question number 29 (set 1 and 2), question 27 (set 3). However, several teachers are of the opinion that the question was clear and there was no reason for students to get confused. Shailendra Salvi, chairman, General Education Institute, a trust which runs three CBSE schools in Mumbai fixed the accountability on the paper setter. Salvi said that it's the responsibility of the paper setter to keep in mind the age and comprehension capability of students while asking the questions. "Giving full marks is not a solution. Attempting a question is important and those who have done it need to be rewarded. Not those who have not even attempted it," Salvi said. Some studious students who have worked hard to score good marks in the board exam feel that it would be unfair as students who have written wrong answers to the question will also get marks for the same. It may be mentioned here that students get admissions in colleges based on the marks they score in Class 12 marks. Some evaluators feel that the students may not get the benefit as the notice was handed over to the evaluators after two days. various views
