The arrested person has been identified as Ahmed Shamshul Haq. According to the police, victim, who is a director of a well-known organisation, got in touch with Haq in 2017 and later became good friends. He added, the complainant reportedly started chatting with victim on the number given by Haq. "Victim claimed that they had intimate conversations, based on which the woman demanded extortion. She told the victim to pay money, else she would show the chat conversations to his wife," said the officer. The terrified victim first approached Haq and informed him about the blackmail. Haq asked the victim to comply to her demands, else she would defame him. The victim then approached the police and registered a complaint. "As per our instructions, the victim agreed to give money to the blackmailer and decided to meet her on Tuesday. Haq, who had come to receive the money from the victim was then arrested by our team," said the officer. The police suspect that Haq impersonated as a woman and blackmailed the victim.
