However, this will affect the civic body's monsoon preparedness work along with other civic works. This affected the bridge works as several minor and major repair works of bridges and FOBs are underway. This might delay the civic body's monsoon preparedness work. "Engineers are on the radar after every incident like Altaf Manzil, Babu Genu Building collapse, road works, nullah desilting work without proper inquiry. However, with them following the rulebook the engineers will work only as per office hours and take written orders from the seniors.

To express their condemnation over the arrests of their colleagues in the aftermath of the recent Himalaya foot over bridge collapse near CSMT, all engineers in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have collectively started working as per rulebook from Monday. However, this will affect the civic body's monsoon preparedness work along with other civic works. Engineers are the key persons in various projects like road construction, bridges repairing, laying water pipeline, coastal road, widening of nullahs, installing a stormwater drainage system. With monsoon just around the corner, the municipal engineers are busy with road resurfacing work across the city, revamping of stormwater drainage system at Hindmata, nulla widening work to prevent water logging in the rainy season. Though BMC appointed contractors are working on these projects, engineers are supposed to keep watch. However, with them following the rulebook the engineers will work only as per office hours and take written orders from the seniors. This might delay the civic body's monsoon preparedness work. Around 42 engineers from the Bridge department went on mass leave from May 9, for the next 15 days. This affected the bridge works as several minor and major repair works of bridges and FOBs are underway. Now all the other engineer joined them and started working as per rulebook from May 13, confirmed Sainath Rajadhyaksha, executive president of BMC Engineers Union. "Engineers are on the radar after every incident like Altaf Manzil, Babu Genu Building collapse, road works, nullah desilting work without proper inquiry. It is injustice towards engineers," said Rajadhyaksha. As per union's press note, engineers will have a discussion with the new commissioner Praveen Pardeshi in this regard; and if it fails, they will start agitation from Wednesday. Scapegoats?
