Recruitment of bureaucrats and officers at state level who cleared the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination using fraudulent means is once again in limelight after the MPSC lodged a complaint against Assistant Police Inspector (API) Dhananjay Fadtare (32) who is suspected to have cleared the exam in 2016 by placing a dummy candidate and also forged documents to avert suspicion. The complaint was recently given to the police by a senior-level official from the MPSC after which the police lodged the FIR against Fadtare at Matunga police station. According to the police, on August 21, 2016, MPSC had conducted a statewide examination for recruiting candidates into the police force to the rank of API. Fadtare whose seat number was 081222 was given Ramnarain Ruia College as his exam centre and after clearing the exam, Fadtare got the posting in Maharashtra. Nanded police, who were already probing fraudulent activities being conducted at government exams, found out that Fadtare cleared the exam using a fake candidate. "When the case was taken up by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Aurangabad, samples of documents used in the 2016 exam like a signature of the fake candidate, hall tickets, attendance register and main answer sheet were sent for examination at a forensic laboratory in Pune. Three other accused identified as Somnath Parve, a suspended API and Prabodh Rathod, a state government employee from Nanded and Narendra Naik who have been already booked for the MPSC scam were too involved in Fadtare's case. Being from Nagpur, Fadtare, chose to appear for the exam in Mumbai to avoid suspicion. Cell phones locations, statements of the other accused and railway journey details of the co-accused establish the fact of cheating in the case," said a police officer while requesting anonymity. Fadtare is suspected of allegedly paying Patil and Rathod to slate a dummy candidate instead of him and the latter duo are alleged to have forged the hall tickets to clear the exam. The Superintendent of Aurangabad CID asked the MPSC to lodge an independent FIR in the matter. "Additional Director General of Police, CID, Pune have instructed to take strict action in the matter. Parve and Rathod have been already charge-sheeted by the CID where it has been established that the duo would use image-editing software to edit photos of candidates on hall tickets. No arrest is made so far," said another officer from Matunga police station.
