An unidentified man has been booked for cheating a 28-year-old salesman of a ceramic showroom in South Mumbai by fleeing away with Rs 30,000 cash under the pretext of giving change and new notes of Rs 10. The complainant identified as Saad Khalifa (28), a resident of Mazgaon has alleged that the unknown accused first came on a black bike near the showroom in Kamathipura and assured that if he was given old notes of higher denomination, he would not just give change of the same but also in new currency notes of Rs 10. Khalifa, who lodged a complaint last week at Sir JJ Marg police station, works as a salesman at 'Bellacasa Ceramica' showroom for last two years. On July 2, he saw the accused who was sitting on his bike wearing a helmet and a raincoat. He called upon his other colleague Umashankar Mishra and first explained his deal to him. Mishra returned and informed his senior Munawar Memon that the man can give some change. "Memon too saw the man and considering him to be a genuine person, he asked Khalifa to go with him to a nearby shop and get the change of Rs 30 thousand. The accused and Khalifa both reached a nearby spot on the bike and the accused then asked him to give him the money and wait for him after he parks his bike and returns. Keeping faith on him, the said amount was handed over to the man and later he fled away. Khalifa tried to chase him but it was too late so he couldn't get the vehicle number," said a police officer from Sir JJ Marg police station. So far, the cops have taken a rough description of the accused and have booked him under relevant sections of the IPC.
