Mumbai: Driver hits dog at Wadala, inflicts serious spinal damage

A speeding driver hit a one-year-old brownie dog at Wadala and inflicted multiple injuries on the dog's leg and dislocated his spinal cord. The doctor said they have to do multiple surgeries to fix the spinal cord. A Wadala resident and Psychotherapist Neeta Shetty (48) is currently taking care of this street dog at her residence. Dr Ashlesha Dave, a specialised spine surgent, said, "We are going to do a spinal cord surgery this Tuesday at 10.00. After this incident, Neeta Shetty and two others also formed an Earth Remedy group to provide medicines and treatment to dogs and other animals hurt by such incidents.

Shetty said they informed the Wadala police about the incident and they are scanning the CCTV footage of the area to nab the culprit. Speaking to DNA, Shetty said, "On Tuesday I received a call from the local that unknown car hit the brownie dog on street outside my building at Lodha New Cuffe parade at Wadala East. With the help of two volunteers, I admitted the dog in a pet hospital." Dr Ashlesha Dave, a specialised spine surgent, said, "We are going to do a spinal cord surgery this Tuesday at 10.00. In this surgery, we will fix the spinal cord. We hope the dog will walk properly after 10 days. The dog is too small so it will take for recovery." Neeta Shetty said, "I informed my society members about the accident and we all contributed Rs 60,000 for the cost of surgery and other treatments. The dog is just one year old and we hope for a miracle that dog will walk soon. I am thankful to the society member for helping me." After this incident, Neeta Shetty and two others also formed an Earth Remedy group to provide medicines and treatment to dogs and other animals hurt by such incidents.
