A viral video purportedly showing Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar twisting a woman's hand has sparked an uproar, with the Congress demanding a molestation case against him. The mayor had gone to meet the family of a mother-son duo who died due to electric shock on Sunday. The agitated family and locals of the area blocked the Western Express Highway after the incident. According to police officials, on Sunday at 3.00 pm Mala Nagam (50) and her son Sanket Nagam died due to electrocution. Both were the residents of Sahyog Sahjeevan Pragati Mandal Society at Golibar road in Santacruz East. The next day, the Mayor visited the bereaved family to express his condolences where the incident took place. In the video, the Mayor is seen surrounded by people objecting his visit. Some women were complaining of his apathy by not coming earlier for aid to the family. When a woman approached to say something, the Mayor allegedly twisted her hand and said, "Don't act smart. You don't know who I am." The chairman of State Woman Commission Vijaya Rahatkar said, "Mayor Mahadeshwar should not behave like this. The Mayor should respect a woman and should listen to public problems and solve them. We will ask Mayor Mahadeshwar to apologize to the lady for his behaviour and will accordingly take action in this matter." Congress MLA Yashomati Thakur demanded an FIR be registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 354 against the Mayor for the alleged molestation. The Mayor rejected allegations of mishandling the lady and termed the issue "politically motivated". "They were not allowing me to meet the deceased's family. I just asked a woman, did she not know me?" Mahadeshwar said that he spent many years in the same locality and was known among the people there. "I was a school principal for 16 years and there were no such complaints against me," he added.
