Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray backs Raj Thackeray, debunks Enforcement Directorate probe

In a surprise move, Shiv Sena head Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday came out in full support of his estranged cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray in the Kohinoor CTNL case. When asked about the ED notice served to Raj Thackeray, the Sena chief said, "I don't think anything would come out of the inquiry. He was speaking after Congress party legislator Nirmala Gavit and NCP leaders Rashmi Bagul joined Shiv Sena on Wednesday. During the Lok Sabha election, Raj Thackeray had fired salvos against BJP but had preferred not to target Shiv Sena. Both Thackerays have ruled out an alliance between Shiv Sena and MNS or MNS' merger into Shiv Sena.

He reiterated that despite the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) notice to Raj nothing concrete will emerge from the enquiry and his cousin will go unscathed in the matter. ED has served a notice to Raj Thackeray for his appearance today. When asked about the ED notice served to Raj Thackeray, the Sena chief said, "I don't think anything would come out of the inquiry. We should wait for a day or two.'' He was speaking after Congress party legislator Nirmala Gavit and NCP leaders Rashmi Bagul joined Shiv Sena on Wednesday. Thackeray's support comes at a time when Shiv Sena is sharing power in the BJP-led governments at the Centre and state. Besides, BJP and Shiv Sena are about to initiate talks for seat-sharing for the ensuing assembly election. The ED is probing the IL&FS's loan and equity investment of Rs 860 crores in one of the defaulters, Kohinoor CTNL. Kohinoor CTNL has been constructing Dadar's Kohinoor Square towers. The ED reportedly wants to question Thackeray on his exit from the group. Raj Thackeray and former chief minister Manohar Joshi's son Unmesh Joshi had jointly bid for some assets after creating a consortium, but later the former had quit. During the Lok Sabha election, Raj Thackeray had fired salvos against BJP but had preferred not to target Shiv Sena. Both Thackerays have ruled out an alliance between Shiv Sena and MNS or MNS' merger into Shiv Sena.
