Lakhs of commuters travelling by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses will be able to plan their journey better from today. The undertaking has launched a new mobile app called 'BEST Pravas' which will allow Mumbaikars to track buses on their mobile phones in real-time. Under the Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) project funded by the Mumbai civic body, BEST has developed this new app. The app will allow passengers to check the estimated time of arrival and journey time the passengers with the help of Vehicle Tracking System fitted on the buses. Apart from getting destination alert, the users can also rate the driver and conductor or a trip and stay updated about the bus routes available. The BEST officials said that all 27 bus depots have been connected with 50 Mbps data for monitoring these buses. BEST begun trials of the mobile app, making the beta or trial version of it available to the public on Google play store, from August 26. It also collected feedback from experts, students and passengers for improving the app. Other Benefits The app will allow passengers to find their lost property on the bus, rate the driver and conductor or a trip and stay updated about the bus routes available The only problem faced was that the app estimates the arrival time without considering the traffic jams, said a BEST official. Hence, keeping up with the estimated arrival times is going to be difficult. BEST has geo-mapped nearly 6,000 bus stops and over 400 bus routes. BEST operates over 3,100 buses on these routes which ferry nearly 30 lakh passengers every day.
