Maharashtra Dyslexia Association aims to spread dyslexia awareness

As its week-long drive, the Maharashtra Dyslexia Association (MDA) is out to spread awareness about dyslexia and learning disabilities. According to the organisation, they want to create awareness about the support needed for the children suffering from dyslexia. she added, "Our purpose is to create awareness among the students, teachers, parents and other professions. October is dyslexia awareness month. Workshops were created such as for teachers we conducted sessions on understanding Dyslexia and parents on understanding and accommodations changes for their children."

As its week-long drive, the Maharashtra Dyslexia Association (MDA) is out to spread awareness about dyslexia and learning disabilities. With the help of schools, educational institutes and hospitals in the city, the non-profit organisation - MDA, which was started by parents and professionals to advocate right of these students to raise awareness on the issues faced by the people facing dyslexia. Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty in reading due to problems identifying speech, sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words. According to the organisation, they want to create awareness about the support needed for the children suffering from dyslexia. Early diagnosis and detection will help the children get medical intervention at an early stage and at the right age. Masarrat Khan, CEO of the association, said, "We have covered over 1000 students in almost 30 schools in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, this week in order to make them aware about dyslexia and the challenges these students face. Through activities we created awareness about what kind of support these students with special needs, require from their friends." she added, "Our purpose is to create awareness among the students, teachers, parents and other professions. October is dyslexia awareness month. Workshops were created such as for teachers we conducted sessions on understanding Dyslexia and parents on understanding and accommodations changes for their children." Poster designing competition for the children are arranged in order to showcase their thoughts about dyslexia. Divya Balgi, member of the association, said, "We had various programs, workshop and training sessions for free of cost. In KEM and Sion Hospital, we had conducted events along with the parents and cases visit their clinics."
