RTE admissions: Only 57 confirmed in its final round

Even after that, only 57 applications were confirmed in the final round of RTE. In the recently ended final admission round, out of the 302 allotted seats for the final round only 57 confirmed their seats. As per the department officials, parents don't turn up to confirm admissions even after being allotted seats in the student's name. A total of 357 schools were finalised this year who reserved 25 per cent of their seats out of the total for RTE. A total of 11,584 applications were registered through RTE online admission and RTE mobile app.

The education department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) this year had appointed 'block-level' authorities in regards to less number of parents showing interest in the admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) act in private-unaided schools. Even after that, only 57 applications were confirmed in the final round of RTE. In the recently ended final admission round, out of the 302 allotted seats for the final round only 57 confirmed their seats. As per the department officials, parents don't turn up to confirm admissions even after being allotted seats in the student's name. "The block-level also known as block committee consist of officials who acted as a medium between schools and parents. Their job was to get in touch with every parent and guide them the procedure till the end i.e., confirmation of seats. This however will only work if the parents show interest," said a senior official at the education department. Even after these block-level authorities, the number of confirmed applications remains low. "The affect of these block-level authorities will be seen gradually. This year, a total of 3,456 students confirmed their seats in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) schools, which is higher than the previous years," the official added. A total of 357 schools were finalised this year who reserved 25 per cent of their seats out of the total for RTE. Last year with a total of 347 schools in MMR, 3,214 had confirmed their seats by the end of all the rounds, which is lesser than this year. This year a total of 7,491 were up for grabs in the schools which means still 4,035 seats are lying vacant that is being reserved for RTE admissions. State-selected private unaided non-minority schools have to reserve 25% of their total seats for the students belonging to the marginalised category section in the society. A total of 11,584 applications were registered through RTE online admission and RTE mobile app.
