Maharashtra government makes it mandatory for all domestic passengers flying to Mumbai from Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Goa to carry a COVID negative report, as per new guidelines issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The new guidelines were issued by the BMC on Monday as places across the country are witnessing a post-festival season spike in coronavirus cases, with Delhi being the worst hit.

As per the latest guidelines on air travel to Maharashtra, all domestic passengers from Delhi, Gujarat, Goa, and Rajasthan will have to mandatorily submit a negative RT-PCR test report before boarding their flight at the respective airports and then show it to the team at the arrival airport.

The guidelines will come into effect from November 25.

The RT-PCR test must be done within 72 hours of scheduled landing time in Maharashtra.

Passengers from the mentioned state who don`t have a negative COVID report will have to pay for an RT-PCR test at the airport.

They will only be allowed to go home after testing and will be treated as per protocol if their report comes positive.

NEW GUIDELINES FOR RAIL PASSENGERS
The Maharashtra government has also issued new travel guidelines for trains originating or having halt/stop at stations in Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Goa.

All such passengers will have to carry a negative RT-PCR test report before they enter Maharashtra.

The testing will have to be done within 96 hours of scheduled arrival in Maharashtra.

Passengers not having an RT-PCR test negative report shall be screened for symptoms and body temperature at the alighting railway stations. The passengers without symptoms would be allowed to go home.

Those who display symptoms shall be segregated and made to undergo antigen testing at the railway station. If the antigen test report comes negative, the passengers will be allowed to go home.

The decision comes days after the Maharashtra government said it was deliberating whether a complete ban on flights, train, and road travel to and from Delhi and Gujarat should be imposed or people coming from the national capital should be quarantined upon their arrival in the state. Maharashtra reported 5,753 new cases.

Earlier on Sunday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had hinted at the reimposition of lockdown in the state in the coming days.

Maharashtra reported 5,753 new cases. Gujarat has also seen a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, forcing the state government to impose a night curfew in Ahmedabad. Night curfew was also imposed in Rajasthan from Saturday.
