The Malad House Collapsed, Contractor Arrested for illegal construction: Maharashtra

The incident took place on Wednesday night when a ground+01 house in Malvani slum pocket collapsed on another house and claimed 12 lives.

Rafiq Shaikh, the Contractor of the Malad House in Mumbai was arrested on Thursday. The Malad House Collapsed in Malvani Slum taking away 12 lives. 

Both the accused were booked under IPC 304(2)- culpable homicide not amounting to murder, IPC 336- Act endangering life or personal safety of others, IPC 337- causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others, IPC 338- causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others and IPC 34 IPC- common intention.

Dilip Sawant, Additional CP North, told Mirror Now that, "Both the owner and contractor are booked because they made changes in the structure, those changes affected the structural integrity of the house and ultimately resulted in the collapse."


Zonal DCP Vishal Thakur told Mirror Now that, "The accused contractor Ramzan Shaikh was arrested yesterday and he will be produced in the court today."

The owner of the house Rafiq Shaikh, who is also accused was questioned by police on Thursday. Rafiq Shaikh lost 9 members of his family. He himself was not home at the time of the incident.

Total 12 people lost their lives in the incident. There were 8 minors among the deceased. Out of these 8 minors, 2 were below the age of 15 yrs and 6 were below the age of 9 yrs. There was a 3-yrs-old child among the deceased.
