Her friends raised an alarm after which villagers gathered at the spot. Despite all their efforts, however, the girl could not be saved and her body was recovered later on. SO Baruasagar Pankaj Yadav said efforts to trace the alligator bore no fruit till Sunday evening.

JHANSI: A 14-year-old girl was killed by an alligator when she had gone to bathe in a canal with her friends in village Khasara under Baruasagar, around twenty kilometers away from Jhansi, on Sunday morning. Archana, daughter of Janki Raikwar, was sitting at the bank with her feet in the water when an alligator pulled her underwater. Her friends raised an alarm after which villagers gathered at the spot.

Despite all their efforts, however, the girl could not be saved and her body was recovered later on. The police have sent the body for postmortem. SO Baruasagar Pankaj Yadav said efforts to trace the alligator bore no fruit till Sunday evening.

Local villagers said the reptile was seen earlier too but nobody could predict the harm it could bring..
