E-sampark centres start offering key services

CHANDIGARH: The UT information and technology wing on Thursday introduced delivery of over 12 new citizen-centric services though e-sampark centres. Residents now will no longer have to go to SDM office, DC office or MC for obtaining caste certificate, income certificate, character or residence certificates, as these can be obtained through Sampark Centres by paying facilitation charges. Residents will also be able to apply for passports through select Sampark Centres.

The UT has also set timelines for each service delivery. Status report would be shared with the departments concerned to ensure there is no pendency. Residents will be kept informed about their application status through SMSs.

Also, when certificates are ready for delivery, residents will receive an SMS asking them to collect it. In case a certificate is not ready by the due date of delivery, the applicant will be informed accordingly. UT advisor KK Sharma launched the initiative from Sector 21 e-sampark centre.

IT secretary Prerna Puri Wasu said the initiative would promote smart governance. In due course of time, more services would be added to the list, she added. The service of railway ticket booking through IRCTC was started at Sampark Centre of Sector 21 from Thursday.

It is now the second e-Sampark Centre after the one in Sector 7 to offer railway booking service..
