INDORE: Incessant rains lashed city bringing much-needed respite for people from sultry weather. On the darker side, rain exposed the shoddy preparedness of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). Several parts of the city, including the 11.

5km BRTS corridor was inundated while some dilapidated buildings collapsed. IMC`s control room was flooded with calls of fury pertaining to water-logging. Mayor Krishnamurari Moghe said the civic body has dispatched teams in response to every call.

He said most of the water-logging problems arose due to blockage of drainage. "Plastic bags and other materials flow with the rain water and clog drains," he said. About the monsoon preparedness, Moghe said they had done their job of cleaning the drains.

"Despite this, some minor problems remained unresolved," he added. Citizens blamed it on poor garbage disposal system. "Due to poor garbage disposal system, garbage is spread all around.

Mountains of garbage in residential areas is a common sight. All these go into drainage with rainwater," said Pradeep Sharma, a resident of Palasia. He added that this problem of water logging could be solved if garbage mess was addressed.

IMC had identified 100 dilapidated buildings before monsoon but none of them was demolished. On Wednesday, wall of a house collapsed at Khatipura, Bada Ganpati and Khajaran. Later, IMC sent a team to demolish the remaining portions.

No one was injured in these incidents but if action is not taken, a major mishap can take place in coming days. Along with this, portion of roads also caved in at Bada Ganpati and Khatipura. In last 24 hours, Indore recorded 37.

4mm rainfall which was almost half the rainfall received as compared to that of the previous year in the corresponding period. So far, Indore has received just 15% of rainfall as compared to previous years in the same period..
