With no payments made, the farmers are forced to take loans to buy seeds for the next crop and the loans along with the interests are mounting on them,`` said Dotasara, who demanded that the state government release the funds for payment to farmers within a day or two at the maximum. In his reply, state co-operatives minister Ajay Singh said a letter had already been written to the Central government demanding early release of funds. As far as the state government is concerned, it cannot make payments to the farmers until the Centre releases the funds,`` he said, categorically informing Dotasara that there was no question of paying the farmers in a day or two.

JAIPUR: Congress deputy whip Govind Singh Dotasara on Saturday demanded that the state government immediately release funds to pay the farmers for the `channa` and groundnut procured from them at minimum support price (MSP). He said the farmers were awaiting the payment for months now. "The state government procured channa from farmers in March but is yet to pay them for their crop.

With no payments made, the farmers are forced to take loans to buy seeds for the next crop and the loans along with the interests are mounting on them,`` said Dotasara, who demanded that the state government release the funds for payment to farmers within a day or two at the maximum. The deputy whip demanded a reply from the minister on the matter and found support from other legislators in the opposition. Leader of opposition Rameshwar Dudi intervened to say that this was a rather serious matter concerning lakhs of farmers.

"While the government had procured channa in March, it had procured groundnut last December and the farmers are yet to receive payment for both,`` said Dudi, demanding the state government`s assurance that the payment would be made soon. In his reply, state co-operatives minister Ajay Singh said a letter had already been written to the Central government demanding early release of funds. "The state government is awaiting funds from the Centre and we have already written to them regarding this.

As far as the state government is concerned, it cannot make payments to the farmers until the Centre releases the funds,`` he said, categorically informing Dotasara that there was no question of paying the farmers in a day or two. Meanwhile, during the Zero Hour, BJP legislators including Gyan Deo Ahuja and Anita Bhadel raised the issue of safety of Amarnath pilgrims from the state. Seeking the attention of Speaker Kailash Meghwal, Ahjua said about 100 pilgrims from Ajmer were stranded and trapped following clashes at the base camp of the Amarnath Yatra in Kashmir.

"I have information that about 30 to 35 of these pilgrims are injured, of whom 8 to 10 seriously,`` he said, requesting the state government to ensure their safe return. Bhadel said most of the pilgrims belonged to her constituency and supported Ahuja`s demand for state intervention. "We have been receiving phone calls from the trapped pilgrims and their worried family members,`` she said.

Senior cabinet minister Gulab Chand Kataria assured the House that he would get details soon..
