JAIPUR: The world famed Jaipur Foot will now step into Mauritius with the launch of a centre in the country`s capital Port Louise. D R Mehta, founder and the chief patron of the world`s largest organization for the physically challenged — Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata (BMVSS) — will sign an MoU on Sunday to start a centre in Maurituis in association with the country`s large charitable organization — Global Rainbow Foundation (GRF). The GRF is an organization working for the disadvantaged and the physically challenged and provide them medical aid and also impart education to the unprivileged children.

The GRF will launch its Jaipur Foot project which would be called "gift of mobility" in a two-phase manner. It will set up a Jaipur Foot artificial limb centre at Port Louise which will be called "Mahaveer Indradhanush Artificial Limb Centre of Mauritius". Mehta, who left for Mauritus on Saturday, said BMVSS will provide technical support and technical upgrade for the project free of cost.

He said BMVSS recently conducted two camps in Mauritius with the association of GRF and benefitted 400 amputees by providing them mobility. Inspired by the success of the camps, the GRP proposed to set up a permanent centre with trained personnel and BMVSS agreed to provide all help and cooperation in setting up the centre there. "As a gesture, we would gift 100 artificial foot pieces every year to the new centre to enable it run smoothly.

We will also train their personnel free of cost," Mehta said. He informed that BMVSS has set up a similar centre in Columbia and is called Mahaveer-K Mena Centre. Two centres in Pakistan and one in the Philippines is being run with the assistance of BMVSS.

He said a similar centre will soon be opened at Kabul with the assistance of the Afghanistan government..
