Projects in wife’s seat delayed, officials may face Akhilesh ire

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has sought progress reports of the incomplete development projects in his wife Dimple Yadav’s constituency Kannauj. Sources claimed that the chief minister has expressed concern over projects progressing at snail’s pace and directed officials to expedite work. After Akhilesh Yadav assumed charge in 2012, Dimple was elected unopposed in the Lok Sabha bypolls.

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has sought progress reports of the incomplete development projects in his wife Dimple Yadav’s constituency Kannauj. Sources claimed that the chief minister has expressed concern over projects progressing at snail’s pace and directed officials to expedite work. Some officials might also face music due to the delay in project implementation.

After Akhilesh Yadav assumed charge in 2012, Dimple was elected unopposed in the Lok Sabha bypolls. Following her election, the state government announced a slew of development projects for Kannauj. Of them, only two—a museum centre and a pontoon bridge — have been completed.

The list of delayed projects includes Women Degree College in Chhibramau for which Rs 759.07 lakh were sanctioned and Rs 50 lakh were released. Only Rs 27 lakh of the released fund has been utilised and not even the boundary wall of the college has been completed.

In the revised estimate, the project cost has escalated to Rs 1273.49 lakh. Akhilesh had also announced a 100-bed hospital at Chhibramau.

The hospital is to be constructed at the cost of Rs 31.95 crores, of which Rs 18.24 crore were released and nine crore were utilised.

Only one floor of the healing hub has bee constructed so far. Akhilesh had also announced construction of a sports stadium in Makrandnagar. The story goes that Akhilesh, before becoming CM, was inaugurating a cricket tournament in the area when he promised that if local youths could bowl him out, he would get a stadium constructed there.

Local bowlers bowled him out and Akhilesh, after assuming office, announced the construction of the stadium. Funds worth Rs 69.69 crore were sanctioned and Rs 15.

78 crore were released to acquire the land, but construction is yet to begin. Another sports stadium was sanctioned in Chhibramau for Rs 10.06 crore and 1.

83 crore were released, but only 10 per cent work has been completed. The state government had also sanctioned Rs 6.34 crore for a bridge on river Esan and only Rs 3.

84 crore has been utilised, as the bridge is set to miss its September deadline. Of the Rs 228.43 crore sanctioned for building a paramedical college at Tirwa, only Rs 22.

03 crore has been released and Rs 2.31 crore has been utilised. This apart, a dairy proposed to be built at Gaseempur at the cost of Rs 4.

80 crore is also lying incomplete. Of the total cost, Rs 2.87 crore has been sanctioned and Rs 2.

44 crore has been spent. The state government also sanctioned funds to construct high school buildings at five places — Ramkheda, Bhanwargada, Gugrapur, Baisawari and Muraiyya Buzurg. None of the buildings, which would cost Rs 51.

96 lakh each, are complete. Three model school buildings are also lying unfinished. .
