more-in Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Police has decided to issue notices to organisers of DJs and music bands, warning them that they will be booked if they are found using loudspeakers after 10 p.m., as per the Bombay High Court’s directives. The move comes after the noise guidelines were reportedly flouted, and cops were attacked for trying to enforce the rules, in marriage functions at three areas in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. In Koparkhairane village, two cops were injured and a police jeep was damaged, and in Karawe and Belapur village, people hurled abuses on the police. In all three cases, the accused were under the influence of alcohol. Senior Police Inspector Shekhar Bagde from NRI Coastal Police Station said, “Villagers from gaothan areas often threaten us by saying that it is their land and they can do anything that they want. They feel the High Court’s guidelines and laws are not applicable to them. [And since it is a] marriage season [right now], almost every day there is a celebration in villages; so we have decided to warn the DJ and band organisers.” Joint Commissioner Madhukar Pandey said, “We are planning to conduct meetings with all DJ organisers and [music] band guys, and give them strict warning to stop all sound systems by 10 p.m., even if their clients request them to continue, or else we would book them for flouting norms and causing noise pollution.” Mr. Bagde added, “We have booked people from Karawe village and Belapur village for causing Noise Pollution and now the report will be forwarded to Assistant Commissioner of Police and the further action will be taken.” Meanwhile, three accused from Koparkhairane village were arrested for attacking the police and damaging their vehicle.
