Disaster management training should not only be provided to students and NGOs, but also all corporators", said Mumbai mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar. Chief Officer of Disaster Management, Mahesh Narvekar said, "I have no idea of any such proposal". "In a city like Mumbai, any natural or man-made disaster can take place and citizens should be prepared to tackle any situation. All 232 corporators of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) may soon get training in disaster management in keeping with the thrust that every citizen should be prepared to tackle any disastrous situation in the city.

All 232 corporators of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) may soon get training in disaster management in keeping with the thrust that every citizen should be prepared to tackle any disastrous situation in the city. "In a city like Mumbai, any natural or man-made disaster can take place and citizens should be prepared to tackle any situation. Disaster management training should not only be provided to students and NGOs, but also all corporators", said Mumbai mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar. Shiv Sena's former leader of the house and present nominated corporator Trushna Vishwasrao moved a notice of motion in January 2017 saying that all municipal corporators and students should be given training in disaster management to enable them to tackle any disastrous situation in the city. The notice explains that the municipal corporation is firm on providing training to all corporators and students, considering there is a possibility of loss of lives and property in a calamity. The proposal was recently passed in the civic education committee chaired by Shiv Sena's corporator Shubhda Gudekar. Speaking with DNA, Trushna Vishwasrao said, "I will take up the proposal in the coming general body meeting and I believe that training is required for all corporators and students. It is the need of the hour that the disaster management cell provide training to corporators which will, in turn, help the city, should a disaster arise", she added. Chief Officer of Disaster Management, Mahesh Narvekar said, "I have no idea of any such proposal". However, the civic administration's reply to the notice of motion moved by Vishwasrao states that the Municipal Secretary can finalise the date and time to inform the disaster management cell, and the department will arrange the training for the corporators."
