& AnalysisThe cattle sheds along Dahisar river are a major contributor round the year to the deteriorating condition of the Dahisar river, as despite warnings, all the waste from them, including tonnes of buffalo dung, is directly dumped into the river. Founder of River March, Gopal Jhaveri informed that they have asked BMC to take the strictest action against the cattle sheds located along the river as they were serial offenders. BMC meanwhile informed that by evening they had sent their staff to file a First Information Report (FIR). While BMC is finding it difficult to relocate these cattle sheds the only solution is a proper sewage treatment plant be set up to ensure that all the waste coming out of the cattle sheds is first treated and only then allowed to enter the river. Since we have proof, BMC has assured us that they will take action," he said.

Founder of River March, Gopal Jhaveri informed that they have asked BMC to take the strictest action against the cattle sheds located along the river as they were serial offenders Barely six days after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his concern for Dahisar river in a public meeting and asked BMC to step up its protection, local residents on Thursday found two carcasses of calves allegedly dumped in the river along the Western Urban Road near Borivli. While this is the second such incident in the last seven months, upset members of River March, a citizens group which has been campaigning for revival of Mumbai's rivers, immediately alerted BMC officials from R/Central ward as well as local politicians. BMC meanwhile informed that by evening they had sent their staff to file a First Information Report (FIR). Pankaj Trivedi, a resident of Shrikrishna Nagar Complex, which is located adjacent to the river, said that at around 10 am, he saw two people walking in the river along the walls. "Due to heavy rains there were extremely strong currents and hence I was suspicious about what they were doing and decided to check. Soon I saw them covering an animal carcass with hay. I shot images and a video and posted it on social media," he said. Founder of River March, Gopal Jhaveri informed that they have asked BMC to take the strictest action against the cattle sheds located along the river as they were serial offenders. "By the time we reached, the carcasses were gone and we suspect that they were pushed in the flowing water by tabela workers. BMC officials too reached the spot but since the flow was rapid, nothing could be done. Since we have proof, BMC has assured us that they will take action," he said. Meanwhile, Atul Rao, assistant municipal commissioner, R/Central Ward said that since there were four to five tabelas who used the drains, it was difficult to pin point the offender. "We have decided to place a grill mesh on the mouth of the drain to prevent the tabela owners from pushing carcasses in the drain. Also, our Solid Waste Management (SWM) as well as Medical Officer Health (MOH) will be carrying out inspection of the tabelas and levy fines if they are found violating rules," he said. & Analysis The cattle sheds along Dahisar river are a major contributor round the year to the deteriorating condition of the Dahisar river, as despite warnings, all the waste from them, including tonnes of buffalo dung, is directly dumped into the river.
