Continuing their action against rigged petrol pumps, the crime branch of Thane police raided a petrol pump on Nagar road in Pune on Saturday afternoon. As part of their statewide crackdown, this was the first petrol pump in Pune city to be sealed by the Thane police. According to police, the action was taken on the basis of the information they received from the persons arrested for tampering petrol dispensing machines in Thane last month. Speaking to DNA, Karpe said, "One of the arrested person in connection with the petrol pump tampering in Thane, Anil Nalawade, hails from Pune. During the interrogation, he mentioned names of other petrol pumps where they had tampered the petrol dispensing machines. Based on the information, we carried out a raid at the petrol pump on Nagar road." During the raid, the police found out that the seal of the pulse unit board of the machine was broken. "They tamper the pulsar board and change the IC chip with the help of which less petrol is dispensed," Karpe added. After finding the seal of the pulsar board broken, the police have sealed the petrol pump and they have confiscated the motherboards of these machines. "We have served a notice to the petrol pump owner. We will now be sending a letter to the officials of Indian Oil, asking them to send their team to inspect the petrol pump and submit a report on tampering of these machines. Further action will be taken once the report is submitted," Karpe added. The Thane police also carried out a similar raid in Nagpur.
