MMRDA plans flyover to decongest traffic on Andheri Ghatkopar Link Road

This will be the first road construction work taken up by the MMRDA for the city in the past couple of years. MMRDA is currently undertaking construction of roads in Thane, Kalyan and Bhiwandi region, and has constructed many roads such as the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road and Sahar Elevated Road in the city. If things go according to plan, flyover work could begin by February 2018. It will mostly benefit the up and down traffic coming or going from Thane towards Andheri,” said Dilip Kawathkar, spokesperson, MMRDA. In order to decongest traffic on the Andheri Ghatkopar Link Road (AGLR) and to ease movement of vehicles going up or down towards Thane, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to construct a flyover starting from the Ghatkopar end of AGLR junction connecting it with Eastern Express Highway (EEH).

In order to decongest traffic on the Andheri Ghatkopar Link Road (AGLR) and to ease movement of vehicles going up or down towards Thane, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to construct a flyover starting from the Ghatkopar end of AGLR junction connecting it with Eastern Express Highway (EEH). The flyover will start from the Ghatkopar end junction of AGLR and will go on up to EEH ending at Vikhroli near the Godrej factory. According to the MMRDA, the length of the flyover will be approximately 650 metres and will cost around Rs 35 crore. “The construction of the flyover will help around 80,000 to 1 lakh vehicles plying towards Thane using the AGLR and EEH. It will mostly benefit the up and down traffic coming or going from Thane towards Andheri,” said Dilip Kawathkar, spokesperson, MMRDA. According to MMRDA officials, it has recently floated bids for appointing a contractor who will prepare a detailed design of the flyover and also undertake its construction, which will take 18 months until completion. If things go according to plan, flyover work could begin by February 2018. This will be the first road construction work taken up by the MMRDA for the city in the past couple of years. According to the bid document floated by MMRDA, “The bidder should visit the site prior to submission of tender and ascertain the local site condition, working restrictions, obstructions, conditions in tender document regarding approvals, no objection certificate required for the work from local authorities and shall quote the offer inclusive of all such expenses likely to be incurred while execution of the work.” EASING CONGESTION According to the MMRDA, the 650-metre flyover will help motorists travelling up and down from Thane towards Andheri.
