Children’s Day: Uber offers free rides in cars of the ’90s

Uber is offering free rides in vintage cars, including the Contessa and NE118, on Tuesday to mark Childrens’ Day. Uber is partnering with Droom.in, an online automobile marketplace, to bring back the cars, which were popular during the nineties. Uber will roll out these cars, including Contessa, NE118, Ambassador, Maruti 800, and Padmini on Tuesday to mark the special occasion. “Back to the 90s is a simple effort from our side to give our riders a break from their day to day routine, take a trip down memory lane. With this activation, we hope parents enjoy showing their children what the 90s were like,” said Shailesh Sawlani, General Manager West, India, Uber.

The experience on November 14 would rekindle memories of the nineties, the cab aggregator believes. Uber is partnering with Droom.in, an online automobile marketplace, to bring back the cars, which were popular during the nineties. Uber will roll out these cars, including Contessa, NE118, Ambassador, Maruti 800, and Padmini on Tuesday to mark the special occasion. “All one needs to do is request for a joyride in one of these iconic cars. The joyride could last ten-fifteen minutes. There is no cost for this,” an official statement from Uber read. The application would be integrated with a feature whereby the rider would have to click on an icon named ‘Nostalgia’ to avail a free ride. Riders could also receive gift hampers that include Tinkle comics, Kismi toffees, Phantom sweet cigarettes, audio cassettes, movie posters, slam books and more. “This experience will be available only in Mumbai and Pune on November 14 from 1 pm to 3 pm. If connected, you’ll get a chance to enjoy a 15-minute joyride in a ‘90s car and receive your own hamper,” the statement added. “Back to the 90s is a simple effort from our side to give our riders a break from their day to day routine, take a trip down memory lane.
