Citizens take to the streets to oppose railway lines to Madikeri

Thousands of environmentalists and like-minded people were up in arms and took to the streets to protest the two proposed railway projects between Madikeri-Thalaserry-Mysuru and Mysuru-Madikeri , which they say will destroy the flora and fauna of the region. On Sunday, protesters took out a march from Dasara Exhibition Grounds by holding placards and shouting slogans against the proposed railway projects, which would result in the destruction of nearly two lakh trees.Speaking at the event, actor and environmentalist Suresh Heblikar underlined the importance of protecting river Cauvery as it is the lifeline for the people of Madikeri Mysuru and Bengaluru.
