No construction allowed on Kukkarahalli lake bed: Mysuru DC

MYSURU: Mysuru district administration categorically made it clear that construction of Regional Science Center building won't be allowed on the Kukkarahalli lake bed.Mysuru DC D Randeep has made it clear that no construction activity would be allowed on the lake bed and recommended the state government to shift the proposed center from the Kukkarahalli lake bed.Kukkarahalli lake is an iconic lake of the Mysuru city. It is maintained by the University of Mysore (UoM)It can be recalled that recently, the Kukkarahalli Lake Ulisi Samiti had launched an online campaign seeking the district administration's intervention to shift the Regional Science Center from the lake bed. Speaking to The Times of India, M G Jestashree who is part of the Kukkarahalli Lake Ulisi Samiti informed that we are very happy that DC has taken up the decision to shift regional science center from the kukarahalli lake bed.

It is maintained by the University of Mysore (UoM)It can be recalled that recently, the Kukkarahalli Lake Ulisi Samiti had launched an online campaign seeking the district administration's intervention to shift the Regional Science Center from the lake bed. The Regional Science Center is a project initiated by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM). The state and central governments have agreed to share the cost at 50:50 ratio. It is third such museums in the state. First two have been constructed in Dharwad and Pilukula of Dakshina Kannada. According to the sources, the project work was taken up four years ago and the construction works were stopped following stiff resistance from the local groups. This center was proposed in six acres of land on the Kukkarahalli lake bed.According to the sources privy to the developments, DC in his letter to the state government has recommended to shift the center from the lake bed. "The district administration has found, as per the old revenue maps, it lies within the lake bed. After having conducted a survey, DC D Randeep has written a confidential letter to the state government. But however, the state government has to still take a decision. The state government decision will be final," sources confirmed to The Times of India.As expected the green activists are welcomed the DC's letter and decision. Speaking to The Times of India, M G Jestashree who is part of the Kukkarahalli Lake Ulisi Samiti informed that we are very happy that DC has taken up the decision to shift regional science center from the kukarahalli lake bed. "We are pleased to have a DC who is concerned about conserving the biodiversity of Mysuru. This decision and also the voice of Mysuru people in preserving ecosensitive zone like Kukarahalli located at the center of Mysuru city, stand out and says we citizens of Mysuru care for nature and these flora and fauna is an integral part of Mysuru," she said.
