Writer Vijaya Dabbe passes away

Mysuru: Noted Kannada writer Vijaya Dabbe died in a private hospital here on Friday. She wrote about the welfare of women and exploitation.The poem ‘Miruguva Gorigalu’ (Glittering Tombs) take us through a woman’s life. She was 66.Vijaya, who was reportedly ailing, came to Mysuru to stay with her younger sister Chayadevi in Vijayanagar two days ago. Her scholarly publications are Shyamala Sanchaya (Selections from Shyamala) in 1989, collections of writings by Kannada writer Shyamala Devi (1910–1943) and Mahile Sahitya Samaja (Women Literature Society) in 1989.She was an active member of Samata, a women’s group in Mysuru. She published two collections of poetry, the award winning Iruthave (They Exist) in 1975 and Niru Lohada Chinte (The Worries of Water and Metal).

When she complained of illness on Friday evening, her relatives rushed her to a private hospital where she was declared brought dead.Vijaya, born on June 1, 1951 in Dabbe village, Hassan district, wrote a lot on feminism and was head of the Kannada department in University of Mysore. She wrote more than 12 books and over 60 research works. She wrote about the welfare of women and exploitation.The poem ‘Miruguva Gorigalu’ (Glittering Tombs) take us through a woman’s life. She published two collections of poetry, the award winning Iruthave (They Exist) in 1975 and Niru Lohada Chinte (The Worries of Water and Metal). She was conferred the Athimabbe Award by the state government, Anupama Award by Karnataka Women Writers Association, Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award and Kendra Sahitya Academy Award, Vardhamana Award, among others.She penned various books, including Tirugi Nintha Prashne (1995), Nari Dari Diganta (1977), Samshodane Sampadhisi, Nayasena, Nagachandra Ondu Adyayana, Hitheshiya Hejjegalu and Sarasaraswathi.
