MYSURU: The president of the Congress’ Mysuru district unit BJ Vijaykumar sprang to the defence of former chief minister Siddaramaiah, who is facing allegations of having illegally acquired Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) land in the wake of a Right To Information ( RTI ) activist N Gangaraju filing a complaint to the effect. Dubbing the charges leveled against Siddaramaiah ‘false’, Vijaykumar said that the party would approach the high court to challenge them.Vijaykuamar, who produced relevant documents pertaining to the land parcel in question, said, “Muda has not acquired 30 guntas under the survey numbers 70/4A. In fact, Muda obtained the same area of land under 70/4B belonging to Bora.”Accusing Gangaraju of creating confusion by spreading a false story, Vijaykumar added, “The 30 guntas under 70/4A belong to Annaiah, Sakamma and Sunanda, all of whom are from the same family. All three of them applied to Muda for a no-objection certificate in 1997 to construct houses. Muda provides the certificate, while it is the deputy commissioner who gives clearance for conversion of land. It was only after DC approved the conversion that Siddaramaiah bought the 10 guntas belonging to Sakamma.”VIjaykumar said that Siddaramaiah had constructed a building on a none-acre plot, a property he had sold during the 2004 election. “So, the allegation that he encroached 952ft of the neighbouring property is false and baseless. These allegations have been to defame Siddaramaiah by a team of people in the district,” he added.President of the Congress’ district legal cell Palya Suresh said that the court had directed police to register an FIR and probe what was a private complaint. “Police will verify the documents produced by both the parties, and file a chargesheet based on them. We will provide all documents to the investigating officer, and move the high court seeking closure of the case. We are contemplating filing a defamation case against Gangaraju,” said Suresh.
