Music varsity guest faculty stage protest

Mysuru: Guest faculty who have been serving at the Karnataka State Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University, Mysuru, since its inception alleged that their term had not been extended owing to the partisan attitude of the varsity administration. The guest lecturers of the university, who staged a protest on Friday, claimed that only those acquainted with the management were being selected for these posts.“There is a conspiracy by those in the varsity administration to appoint only those close to them,” said the protesting lecturers.Pointing out that they had been teaching at the varsity for the past 10 years, the protesters alleged that the in-charge vice-chancellor of the music university R Rajeev, who had no knowledge in music or the performing arts, had invited applications for guest faculty without informing them about it.Assistant professor for tabla Dandaiah said, “He is trying to appoint people from his community, and those close to him.”Guest lecturer Narayana opined that only a full-time VC should initiate recruitment of teachers.Meanwhile, another lecturer at the varsity Ganesh accused the in-charge VC of making caustic remarks about artists, and passing lewd remarks at women teachers.
