Will inspect Mysore Race Club next week, says Mahesh

Mysuru: For nearly a decade, senior JD(S) leader Sa Ra Mahesh has been fighting to get Mysore Race Club (MRC) shifted out of the city limits. Mahesh had instructed the authorities at MRC to dismantle temporary structures that had been erected without authorization. Mahesh, meanwhile, has proposed shifting the club to a location 20km from the city. We will inspect the race course later, and then meet with the club officials to discuss extension of the lease.”MRC officials were seen supervising the removal of temporary sheds at the race course on Friday.MRC president Venkatesh told TOI that they had dismantled all the temporary structures at the race course in accordance with the directions of the tourism minister . Following his induction into the state cabinet as the tourism and sericulture minister, Mahesh has only intensified his campaign.

Mahesh had instructed the authorities at MRC to dismantle temporary structures that had been erected without authorization. Mahesh said that he would visit the club, accompanied by officials from the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and district administration, next week to check if the MRC management had complied with his directions.Mahesh pointed out that the 139-acre property had been given to MRC to conduct horse racing activities. “But, the management has violated the norms,” he added.Questioning the club’s decision to allow more than 1,000 hostlers – people who take care of the horses – on the race course premises in illegal structures, Mahesh said, “We have given the club time till Saturday to evacuate the hostlers. We will inspect the race course later, and then meet with the club officials to discuss extension of the lease.”MRC officials were seen supervising the removal of temporary sheds at the race course on Friday.MRC president Venkatesh told TOI that they had dismantled all the temporary structures at the race course in accordance with the directions of the tourism minister . “Based on his instructions, we have dismantled all temporary structures well before the deadline,” he added.MRC was established by the Mysuru maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in 1920. Mahesh, meanwhile, has proposed shifting the club to a location 20km from the city.
