Mysuru: Taking cognisance of the recommendations made by the one-man fact finding committee headed by retired high court judge Justice Bhakta Vatsala, and directions of various government departments, the board of management (BoM) of the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) constituted a subcommittee in May to look into the irregularities at the varsity that resulted in the de-recognition of its courses by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Vice-chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Karisiddappa was appointed the chairman of the subcommittee, which was scheduled to meet for the first time on Saturday. However, the meeting was postponed since KSOU VC D Shivalingaiah was not in Mysuru. The other members of the subcommittee are MLC S Nagaraj, KSOU registrar KS Shivamarmu, Ramanna Salabhavi and Bengaluru-based advocate Rajakumar Sanghai. Shivaramu will serve as the secretary of the subcommittee. The subcommittee has been tasked with submitting a report on the action initiated by the varsity on the recommendations made by the Bhakta Vatsla-led one man panel. The members will also have to report on the measures adopted by the varsity on the various directions issued by government departments, and the audit reports submitted by the Accountant General, and other agencies.Sources in KSOU said that the subcommittee had been directed to submit its action report a month after its formation. However, although the deadline has elapsed, it is yet to meet even once.Confirming the constitution of the subcommittee, the varsity registrar Shivaramu told STOI, “We have been asked to submit a report on the many directions and orders issued by the governor, auditors and other government departments.”Despite repeated attempts to reach him, VTU VC Karisiddappa was not available for a response. On the other hand, students want the subcommittee to submit its report as soon as possible. “The KSOU scam has affected the lives and future of more than 10 lakh students. Nobody has been punished even though the scam is now a decade old. UGC and the central government must look into this scam,” said Sudheer Kumar, a former KSOU student.
