Mysuru police create green corridor to transport harvest organs to Bengaluru

MYSURU: Mysuru City police on Saturday created a green corridor to transport multiple organs harvested from a brain-dead student Namana Lungs, kidneys and heart valves were harvested from Namana (22) who met with a road accident atop Chamundi Hills late on Friday, but was declared brain dead a day later. This was the second time cops are creating the green corridor in the less than a week.Police commissioner A Subramanyeshwara Rao told STOI the green corridor was formed by the cop to cater to the medical emergency to transport multiple organs to Bengaluru. The vehicle left Mysuru at 12.30pm. There was no chance of her recovery and she was declared brain dead late on Friday. She was native of Hassan district.According to the hospital, she was brought to hospital in unconscious state around 10.50pm and since then she was on the ventilator.

A kidney, lungs and heart valves were taken to Bengaluru in an ambulance vehicle in less than two hours to respective hospitals while another kidney was transplanted in Apollo hospital in Mysuru.City police facilitated the entire process by coordinating with their counterparts in Mandya, Ramnagara and Bengaluru and ensured ambulance vehicle carrying three different organs – lungs, heart valves and a kidney from Apollo Hospital Mysuru reached three different hospitals – Apollo, Bengaluru, Victoria hospital Bengaluru and Narayana Hrudayala Bengaluru in less than two hours.The ambulance took 12 minutes to leave the Mysuru city as police cleared 15-km-long road from hospital to Srirangapatna in less than 12 minutes. The vehicle left Mysuru at 12.30pm. Since there are signal lights all along the way from the hospital on Adi Chunchanagiri road to Bengaluru, we facilitated the process by deputing traffic men at various junctions and in coordination, with neighbouring district police, the organs were sent to respective hospitals. A mobile team led the ambulance vehicle from hospital to Srirangapatna.Rao said it took 12 minutes to traverse 15-km distance from hospital to neighbouring district.Apollo Hospitals vice president Bhartheesh Reddy said lungs was transplanted into Jayanth Jain (62) from Chennai at BGS Global Bengaluru while two heart valves sent to Narayana hospital bank and a kidney to Victoria hospital. It first reached BGS in 90 minutes from our hospital.Reddy explained that once the relatives of brain-dead patients agree, we will send a requisition to Jeevasarthakathe - the state authorization committee for organ transplants for approval - only then we will harvest the organs. Apollo Hospitals in Mysuru has the licence to harvest only liver and kidneys and to harvest other organs we will summon experts from any registered hospitals having licenses in Karnataka.Then we will place a request to city police who have always obliged to our request, Reddy stated. In this case, patient Namana’s Brother MC Naveen came forward to donate sister’s organs.Siddarthanagar traffic police inspector Muniyappa said Namana MC, a final BCom student, met with the accident on July 5 at 6.30pm and she was hospitalized. She was riding pillion in a bike which was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle. She was native of Hassan district.According to the hospital, she was brought to hospital in unconscious state around 10.50pm and since then she was on the ventilator. There was no chance of her recovery and she was declared brain dead late on Friday.
