MYSURU: Continuing their drive against illegal dyeing units in the city, officials of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), along with district administration authorities, on Friday sealed another plant, which was reportedly the largest among the eight that have been ordered to shut shop.A team led by Mysuru tahsildar T Ramesh Babu, and KSPCB environmental engineer BM Prakash raided, and sealed the dyeing unit located in Rajivnagar, which falls within Udayagiri police station limits. Our drive has achieved positive results with many owners of the dyeing units removing the equipment from their respective plants. “We have already filed eight cases against as many dyeing units. Of these, three have been sealed, and the rest will be shut very soon. Since some of the units are located within the Mysuru city limits, they come under the jurisdiction of a different police station, which is why the process of shutting all the plants is taking some time,” Prakash said. The equipment required to operate dyeing units have been brought to Mysuru from neighbouring Tamil Nadu, since operating such plants in the other state is an expensive affair. Prakash said that businessmen from Tamil Nadu had set up the dyeing units with the help of a few local property owners, wherein the garments would be sent to Tamil Nadu once they were imbued with colours.Interestingly, a few property owners have registered the dyeing units under their name in order to ensure they could obtain power supply.Pointing out that most of the units operated during the night, Prakash added, “Our decision to file a police complaint against these dyeing units has sent a strong message to illegal operators.”
