2 booked for missing foodgrains from warehouse

This happened despite the local deputy director of the department being in-charge of safeguarding the food grains. They were meant to be supplied to ration card holders under public distribution system. Mysuru: A manager and computer operator attached to a warehouse of Food and Civil Supplies (FCS) department have been booked for diverting civil supplies meant for public distribution, on Saturday.Mylaraiah, the manager, and Basavaraju, the computer operator working in Nanjangud warehouse, have gone missing after FSC deputy director (sr) K Rameshwarappa lodged a police complaint against the duo.A surprise check on the warehouse revealed that nearly 1,165 quintals of rice, 196 quintals of wheat and 36 quintals of tur dal have been missing from the warehouse. The officials have continued checking of stocks in the godown. Police officials, too, visited the spots following a complaint.Rameshwarappa told STOI that it was a routine inspection. He was surprised as huge amount of food grains have gone missing from the government-run warehouse. They were meant to be supplied to ration card holders under public distribution system. He said similar checks would be conducted on all godowns in the districts to ensure the food stuffs are not misused or diverted.“We’re probing to know when and how they diverted the food grains from the warehouse that were to be distributed to public through fair price shops,” he added.“Yes, there have been irregularities in the distribution of food grains meant for PDS in Nanjangud. There has been a large-scale looting of food grains including some 96 qunitals of wheat from the local godown.
