More e-toilets proposed in Mysuru city; three of them near parks

Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to install eco-toilets e-toilets ) at three parks in the city after strollers have brought the problem of public urination at the parksTwo toilets will come up in park areas in Kuvempunagar and one in Ramakrishnanagar.Executive engineer for underground drainage network of MCC Jagannath Jhadav said that there was a public demand to install e-toilet cubicles near the parks. “So, we have decided to set up 12 more e-toilet cubicles across the city, and three of them will come up near parks,” said Jhadav.The toilets can be operated using coins of all denominations – Re 1, Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 10. “We initially installed these at crowded spaces such as markets, bus terminals and railway stations. With more people using these toilets, it has helped us keep the city clean,” he told TOI.The MCC official added that there had been suggestions from the public to install similar structures at parks, wherein the toilets would flush automatically. We started with just two units, but subsequently proceeded to set up 14.

Explaining the rationale behind the MCC’s decision not to fix a particular price, Jhadav said, “The main purpose is to help public use the facility with the least trouble. If there is no fixed charge, they will not have to scurry around for change.”MCC health officer, and nodal officer for the Swachh Survekshan DG Nagaraj echoed Jhadav’s observations on the role played by e-toilets in helping the civic agency maintain cleanliness in the city.
