Need another year's time to prove commitment to farmers, says CM

There is a pending amount of Rs 4,000 crore which we have to clear this year. "Kumaraswamy insisted that it is just the beginning of a "good government" and he faces no problems in running the government.

MYSURU: Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy accompanied by his wife Anitha and some cabinet colleagues including D K Shivakumar and G T Devegowda, offered 'bagina' at the KRS and Kabini dams on Friday. Kumaraswamy then appealed to farmers to give his government a year's time to prove its commitment to the farming community.Arriving almost three hours late, Kumaraswamy immediately offered 'bagina' and participated in traditional rituals. This is the second time Kumaraswamy has offered 'bagina' at Kabini. He did so in 2007 too when he was chief minister.Kumaraswamy claimed the waiving of farm loans was not an easy task since Rs 14,000 crore was earmarked as salary to government employees following a rise of 30 per cent in the sixth pay commission."There was pressure from MLAs to waive loans completely," he said. "The Siddaramaiah government had announced a waiver of Rs 8,165 crore. There is a pending amount of Rs 4,000 crore which we have to clear this year. This year, cooperative banks claim they have given Rs 10,734 crore in fresh loans of which I have promised to clear Rs 9,500 crore. I need more time to bring in programmes."Kumaraswamy insisted that it is just the beginning of a "good government" and he faces no problems in running the government. "Nobody can make this government insecure," he claimed. "Many people said my budget is for only Mandya district , but I announced Rs 100 crore for Kodagu district which had suffered from rain damage," he claimed.He revealed that KRS dam is receiving an inflow of 50,000 cusecs and around 9 TMC of water has been released to Tamil Nadu from Kabini dam . "Farmers who could not grow paddy due to drought can sow now as more water than stipulated has been released to Tamil Nadu," he said.CM also said that by developing Bridhavan Gardens in the lines of Disneyland in the US, there will be employment to around 25,000 youths from Mandya, Mysuru and surrounding districts.During his visit to Talacauvery, Kumaraswamy said, "I read that I am the first CM since JH Patel to visit the place. There are reports of Patel having lost the post after he came here. But, this is just a superstition."
