MYSURU: As the water rose, first submerging his fields where he worked and then entered his house, 62-year-old MN Rajagopal wondered where he would go with his two daughters, both mentally challenged . A friend told him about a donation box at a hotel in Madikeri and that proved to be a boon. Rajagopal and his two daughters, along with some of their friends, are now at the state and national bravery award winner Master SS Manoj Physically Disabled and Old Age Home in Yelwala.The donation box belonged to the old age home and carried a contact number. Rajagopal called up the home and was told that he and his daughters would be sheltered for free. He, in turn, informed some of his friends and relatives in Kerala. On Monday, eight people from Kodagu, including Rajagopal and his daughters, and four from Kerala came to the ashram.“I was working in a farm but it was washed away and my daughters and I had no place to stay,” said Rajagopal. “Now, I have told a few friends in Kerala too who are homeless. A few more families are expected to join us in days to come.”SK Ramesh, honorary president of the ashram, told TOI: “On August 24, Rajagopal along with his friends visited the ashram and after checking out our facilities, arrived to stay on Monday.”
