Life interrupted for throwball player

MADIKERI : National-level throwball player Tashma Muttappa , who is in a relief camp here, has one less worry now. “She is a very disciplined player it’s really unfortunate to know she is facing a lot of problems. Friends from Dubai and Qatar are in contact with us and we have given Tashma’s account number to them. My house was buried in the landslide and I have lost my certificates. All my efforts have gone in vain,” she said.The house too was built with her hard-won money.

MADIKERI : National-level throwball player Tashma Muttappa , who is in a relief camp here, has one less worry now. Authorities have promised help to restore her hard-won certificates and citations after they were washed away, along with her house, in 2nd Monnangeri village of Madikeri.Muttappa, 23, has won several tournaments and even taken part in an international meet in Bengaluru in 2016.Two weeks ago, a landslide hit 2nd Monnangeri village in which more than 15 houses were flattened. One of them was Tashma’s. “The locality we lived in has been declared a red alert area after the landslide. My house was buried in the landslide and I have lost my certificates. I started representing Karnataka in 2014. All my efforts have gone in vain,” she said.The house too was built with her hard-won money. “It was just a year ago that we performed the house-warming ceremony and moved in. We has spent Rs 20 lakh for the house and now we are left with nothing,” she rues.Tashma has been at the relief camp at the Madikeri chamber of commerce for nearly two weeks now.Throwball player and Karnataka Kreeda Rathna awardee Mohammed Aquib promised all help. “She is a very disciplined player it’s really unfortunate to know she is facing a lot of problems. We are trying to help her out through social media. Friends from Dubai and Qatar are in contact with us and we have given Tashma’s account number to them. She need not worry about her certificates, we will speak to the federation and get her all certificates,” Aquib said.A BCom graduate from Alva’s College in Moodbidri, Tashma was working as a computer operator at Madikeri Medical College. She was to marry in December and the family used up their savings to buy jewellery. The wedding has been postponed to April.
