Gajapayana is here to mark the beginning of Dasara

Gajapayana, which heralds the beginning of the Dasara festive season, will commence on Sunday, at Veeranahosahalli of Nagarahole National Park. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is yet to announce the amount that will be released for Dasara celebrations, which starts from October 10 and culminates on October 19. A total of six elephants, led by Arjuna, will reach Aranya Bhavan, and on Monday, the first batch of elephants will enter the Palace premises, where they will be given a traditional welcome.Deputy Conservator of Forests, Sidramappa Chalkapure, says, “There will be performances by a host of folk teams, which will add to the Gajapayana celebration. To accommodate six Dasara elephants , mahouts and kavadi families, we have constructed temporary shelters.”DASARA LOGO RETAINEDAhead of the festival, every year a new logo is designed based on a theme, but this year authorities have decided to retain the old with a few cosmetic changes to the official website, which will be launched soon.TRADITIONAL DASARAIn the wake of floods in Madikeri and owing to drought in some parts of Karnataka , it has been decided to celebrate Dasara in a traditional way.
