Countdown to Mysuru Dasara begins

Gajapayana, the traditional march of the Dasara elephants from the jungle camps to the Mysore Palace ahead of the festival season, took place on Sunday in Mysuru. The elephants received a traditional, prayer-filled welcome, which was followed by a bunch of performances by folk artistes. Howdah elephant Arjuna was at the helm of affairs and was joined by Varalakshmi, Gopi, Vikrama, Chaitra and Dhananjaya. The march, with six jumbos, was flagged off at Veeranahosahalli in thatcity.
