Two teenagers drown in Chamarajanagar lake

Mysuru: In a tragic incident, two teenage boys who waded into the waters of a lake in Belachalavadi in Chamarajanagar to enjoy a leisurely swim drowned, and passed away late on Wednesday evening. “The boys had told their parents they would attend dance classes after school. Social welfare minister C Puttaranga Shetty, on learning of the tragedy, visited Belachalavadi, and consoled the bereaved parents. “They immediately alerted the other villagers, and it was found that the bicycles belonged to Chandan and Praveen, and fire department personnel were called to the spot. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Begur police station.

Mysuru: In a tragic incident, two teenage boys who waded into the waters of a lake in Belachalavadi in Chamarajanagar to enjoy a leisurely swim drowned, and passed away late on Wednesday evening. Police said that the two boys were found dead in the waternody only on Thursday morning.“The deceased have been identified as Chandan, 17, a student of class X at Begur Government High School, and Praveen, who was also a student of the same institution, and studying in classw IX,” said police, adding that both were residents of Belachalavadi.Cops added that the duo went to the lake around noontime on Wednesday, informing their parents that they had special classes at school. “The boys had told their parents they would attend dance classes after school. So, when they did not return at night, the parents assumed that the boys had stayed back at the dance studio,” a police officer said.It was only on Thursday morning, when a few villagers went to the lake that they found two bicycles and school uniforms on its banks. “They immediately alerted the other villagers, and it was found that the bicycles belonged to Chandan and Praveen, and fire department personnel were called to the spot. In a search operation that lasted more than three hours, personnel from the fire department found the bodies of the two boys,” police said.On seeing the bodies of their sons, Chandan and Praveen’s parents were distraught with unbridled grief. Social welfare minister C Puttaranga Shetty, on learning of the tragedy, visited Belachalavadi, and consoled the bereaved parents. The minister assured the parents of compensation for their loss from the state government.The bodies of the two boys were handed were handed over to their respective families after a postmortem was conducted. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Begur police station.
