Park named after Saalumarada Thimmakka inaugurated

In keeping with modern lungspaces, the park has been provided with benches, walking paths, lavatories and an open-air gym in order to attract people cutting across ages.In what is likely to delight environmentalists and food lovers both, the forest department has planted a whopping 422 varieties of fruit-bearing plants, and 25 rare saplings such as Rudrakshi and ebony.Meanwhile, the forest department is now working on transforming a 33 acre-plot near Malalawadi Lake with funds provided by the state government. They should discuss the implementation of this with Mysore Urban Development Authority and Mysuru City Corporation authorities,” Devegowda said.Additional principal chief conservator of forests BP Ravi, who is also the member secretary of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka, said, “Lingambudhi Lake area covers 234 acres, of which 214 acres were transferred to the forest department. The process started in 2004, and was finalised in 2011. The waterbody attracts 280 to 320 different species of birds, which is higher than both Kukkarahalli and Karanji lakes.”On setting up of a sewage treatment plant near Lingambudhi Lake, Ravi opined that it would be more effective to channel water from Kabini Dam to the waterbody.Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, Mysuru MP Pratap Simha, Krishnaraja MLA SA Ramadas, MCC commissioner KH Jagadeesh and deputy conservator of forests KT Hanumanthappa were present at the inaugural ceremony.
