MYSURU: A speeding Mercedes Benz car driver hit a five-year-old female deer which was crossing the road near Hirikati gate of the Gundlupet taluk in Karnataka on Sunday evening.The forest department confirmed that it was a Mercedes Benz car as its logo and other parts were stuck into the body of the deer.According to the forest department sources, the incident came to the notice on Monday morning at the time of routine inspection. A few locals alerted about the dead body of a deer which was lying in a pool of blood near the Hirikati gate. Immediately our staff rushed to the spot.The car must be in such a speed that the deer body was crushed under the wheels. It was thrown to the roadside due to the speeding, he explained.Unless and until the police and the department coming out with strict guidelines on the vehicle speed inside the BTR, this kind of accidents continue to claim the lives of the wild animals, he added.Conservator of Forest (CF- additional charge), BTR Ambadi Madhav told TOI that the accident was caused by the speeding."We have collected CCTV footage from the Begur police. An investigation has been launched," he said.
