Shivamogga: While the state government is yet to extend any compensation to the kin of seven people who died due to Kysanuru Forest Disease ( KFD ), health minister Shivananda Patil on Wednesday gave Rs 1 lakh to each of the families, from his own pocket.Senior Congress leader Kagodu Thimmappa visited all the seven families in Aralagodu and distributed the money given by the health minister. Speaking to TOI, Kagodu said, “After the series of deaths, the minister was visibly upset and did not want to wait for the government to extend compensation. So he released funds from his own pocket. I feel relieved to extend help to the affected families on his behalf.”Kagodu said he is not happy with the government for the delay in responding to the emergency situation.Bommayya, father of Lokaraj Jain, who succumbed to the deadly disease, said, “We have received Rs 1 lakh. It is the first time compensation has been paid. We are thankful to minister Shivananda Patil and Kagodu Timmappa for the same.”
