New DCrsquos office unoccupied for 10 months

The building is constructed on a 15-acre plot at an estimated cost of Rs 67 crore. This month, we’ll shift the smaller departments and in a phased manner, we’ll occupy the new building . Hence, the entire office will be not be shifted.”

MYSURU: The newly constructed deputy commissioner’s office at the German Press premises in Siddarthanagar was inaugurated ten months ago but it’s yet to be occupied by the authorities.The then chief minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone on August 7, 2016 for the building and it was inaugurated on March 10, 2018. The building is constructed on a 15-acre plot at an estimated cost of Rs 67 crore. As per the plan, the district registrar’s office and muzrai offices were to be located on the ground floor, deputy commissioner’s office on the first floor, offices of the backward and minorities welfare department, mines and geology, department of legal metrology , fisheries and excise departments and BR Ambedkar Development Corporation on the second floor.According to sources, the government needs to pay another Rs 38.5 crore to the contractor. For the past couple of months, there’s no activity at the office. The building has a built-up area of 23,000 sq metres with a basement of 9,150 sqm, ground floor of 4,720 sqm, first floor of 4500 sqm, second floor of 4,500 sqm and parking area in the basement.N Rajesh, a resident of Siddarthanagar, said: “It’s pathetic that even though the building is ready for occupation, the authorities have failed to occupy it. Hope deputy commissioner Abhiram Sankar instructs his subordinates to occupy the office at the earliest.”Sankar told TOI: “There were minor changes inside and cabin work had to be completed. Now, everything is in a functional state. On Thursday, we called for a meeting but due to some developments, we couldn’t hold it. The previous ADC T Yogesh had called the meeting but he got a transfer order on Thursday. This week, we’ll finalise who will move in there in the first round. This month, we’ll shift the smaller departments and in a phased manner, we’ll occupy the new building . Due to forthcoming parliamentary elections, we don’t want to disturb certain things. Hence, the entire office will be not be shifted.”
