Cheating cases hit new high in Mysuru in December

Mysuru: Heritage City Mysuru appears to have become a haven for tricksters — in December 2018, the city recorded cases of cheating, including financial fraud Mysuru recorded the second highest number of cheating cases during the month in Karnataka. These also include cases of cheating people by promising them with marriage or providing them something. According to Devaraja police, Kamalabai, 70, and Javaramma were approached by unidentified women at the City bus stand and taken outside the bus stand on the pretext of providing them loans. While Bengaluru city recorded 296 cases, Ballari was third with 28 cases, according to statistics released by Karnataka state police at its review meeting late January.Two aged women bus passengers were duped of their valuables after they were lured to provide loans under government schemes. Later, they fled with their valuables.A property buyer was duped of Rs 5 lakh by a youth after posting an ad about the sale of a site. Sathish showed a site to buyer Hemraj and collected Rs 5 lakh in advance. Later, Hemraj learnt that the site belonged to another person and when he didn’t get his advance back, he lodged a complaint of cheating against the youth.A bank customer filed a police complaint after Rs 14.4 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account by producing fake cheques. Devaraj lodged a complaint against an unknown person with Jayalakshmipuram police. In another case, a woman filed a complaint with Udayagiri police against her brother for misusing her property by leasing it and using money for personal use.CCB police inspector Mallesha, who is in-charge of City Crime Records Bureau, told TOI that cases of cheating are not just about financial fraud. These also include cases of cheating people by promising them with marriage or providing them something. He cautioned people to be cautious while dealing with their money or valuables. They should doublecheck or verify deals from multiple sources before finalising them.
