They were welcomed with garlands and greetings at every major junctions in the taluk by people, mostly Congress workers. The supporters also offered garlands made of apples to Ashishek.Even though tourism minister S R Mahesh , who represents KR Nagar constituency, had warned Congress leaders to be prepared to face the consequence in the Mysuru Lok Sabha seat if their leaders and workers oppose Nikhil’s candidature in a public meeting on Friday, the Congress workers in the taluk expressed their support to Sumalatha by participating in the rally during her visit.A large crowd including taluk Kuruba Sangha president Chirnahalli Shivanna, Congress leaders K C Harish, Diddahalli Basavaraj, party spokesperson Syed Zabeer, APMC director Hebbalu Nagendra, municipal council member Subramanya, former president Kantharaj and Congress workers who had come from various parts of the taluk gathered at Sri Krishnarajendra Circle and welcomed Sumalatha with garlands and by bursting crackers.Speaking to reporters, Sumalatha slammed minister S R Mahesh for warning to Congress leaders who are supporting her candidature. “Why JD(S) leaders fear me for contesting from Mandya. JD(S) has eight MLAs, three ministers and an MLC from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency. I don’t know why they are afraid of me. I don’t know why they are threatening Congress leaders. I am doing my work,” she said.“I will announce the date of filing the nominations papers on March 18,” she said.Reacting on Nikhil, Abhishek said both are good friends. “Even though we are contesting opposite to each other, it will not affect our friendship. Our friendship will continue,” he said.Later Sumalatha and Abhishek campaigned in Chunchanakatte Mirle village and visited the famous Hindu pilgrim centres Sri Keshtra Kappadi, Rama Mandira and Hunasamma Temple in the taluk and offered special prayers.Meanwhile, KR Nagar block Congress president Subramanya said that they will campaign for Sumalatha in the election and are not afraid of party suspending them. “I support Sumalatha and I don’t care about the coalition seat sharing formula. Sumalatha is the ideal candidate to become MP. We are happy that we are supporting a good candidate. So we are not afraid. In the previous elections, we had worked for Congress candidate, but as this time party is not fielding any candidate, so we are supporting Sumalatha,” he said.
