The families gather near the well to collect water around that time. During the rest of the day, the well is kept locked. It ensures no one draws extra drops as the water level is already sinking. We need to survive till monsoon,” he said. The move is an attempt by the villagers to save water for dry weather ahead.Panchayat development officer (PDO) AS Rajesh confirmed that the villagers are indeed locking the open well.“By locking it, villagers are ensuring that water is not wasted on any non-drinking purpose,” he said. The PDO, however, denied that there is water crisis. “Some villagers were drawing water for the cattle. This became a concern as cattle owners are supposed to take the herd to a stream nearby,” he said.
